Luck by Chance - Review

Why you must watch it:

• Farhan Akthar returns after impressing us all as an actor in Rock On
• Check if Zoya Akthar has the same Javed Akthar and Farhan Akhtar genes!

Look out for: Rishi Kapoor who finally delivers a terrific performance as Romy Rolly the typical Hindi film producer. 

The Good: Casting and performances, Attention to detail, Well directed
The Bad:  No major cribs

Bottomline: It is interesting that a director with multiple 'filmi' connections should make a film on the struggles faced by actors without godfathers and godmothers in Bollywood. It is probably these connections that have helped Zoya Akthar craft a film that captures some of the most subtle nuances of the film industry and its larger than life characters. Luck by Chance is one of the most well made Hindi films in recent times and it works at all levels. The plot follows the fortunes of two actors - Farhan Akthar as Vikram Jaisingh, the ambitious new kid on the block and Konkona Sen Sharma as Sona Mishra, the struggling actress who keeps her Bollywood dreams alive essaying inconsequential roles. The casting is superb - Farhan Akthar  proves yet again that he can act as well as he can direct and Konkona is brilliant. The film is full of spirited performances from the entire cast; whether it is Dimple as the leading actress turned filmi mom or Isha Sharvani as the debutant actress/star kid who loves her teddy bear. Half of Bollywood's top stars have done cameos in the film and Zoya has used them just at the right moment and to create the right impact. The film has a great look and feel and the music is good (Though certainly not the by any means Shankar Eshan and Loy's best work). Luck by Chance is worth a watch for many reasons but for me the biggest reason is the arrival of a great new filmmaker who proves she is more than worthy of the Akthar suffix.
