Why you must watch it:
- Another film that transports you right into the heart of rural Tamil Nadu (Its almost like being there)
- Great performances from the entire cast. The entire cast looks real and convincing!
- Great Music (Background Score and Songs)
The Good: Plot, Performances and Casting, Music
The Bad: Terrible Climax; almost like a blot on the film
Look out for: Kishore as the Kabbadi Coach who seems to be getting better with every film
Bottomline: I'm surprised most people I know have not heard about Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu; this film has not received the word-of-mouth and buzz it deserves. Debutant director Suseendran has crafted an absorbing tale of a nondescript Kabbadi team without a mission from a small village in Dindigul district and their transition to a winning team courtesy their coach (Kishore). I don't blame you if you think the plot is Chak De revisited. Watch the film and you will stand corrected. The idea might have come from there but Suseendran's story is more about the members of his team with Kabbadi providing the common thread. Vishnu makes a promising debut as Maari the key member of the team and the pivot around whom the film revolves. The film is entertaining with humour forming an integral part of the screenplay (Read no comedy track) and supported by a cast that is convincing. (After a point you forget that almost all of them are actors). Selvaganesh the talented musician has made a sensational start as a Music Director; his background music and songs stay with you for a long time after you leave the theatre. But I still have not forgiven the Director Suseendran for the terrible twist in the tale at the very end. If you watched Balaji Sakthivel's Kaloori and thought - "What a terrible way to end a promising film", it might well be Deja Vu at the end of this film. Still worth a watch for a variety of reasons!
