Background: Flamingo in Besant Nagar is a terrific option for South Indian vegetarian and Non-veg cuisine. The restaurant has a diverse menu, buffets and is part of the Sangam Hotel group from Trichy.
My Quicktake: While Flamingo is pitched as a Multi-cuisine restaurant with a good blend of Indian and Continental, the restaurant really scores with its innovative South Indian dishes. You can choose from their super value Veg and Non-Veg combos (Available only for dinner) that bring together exotic Appams, Idiappams and the like served with fiery gravies. The continental menu is reasonably good too. The restaurant also has buffets during the weekends (About Rs 275/head). But for me Flamingo is worth checking out because it gives diners a rare option for heavy yet snacky South Indian food. Normally you have to choose from the typical veg Idli Dosa joints (Chennai has tonnes of them) or your typical Chettinad eateries (Which are also dime a dozen). The service is warm and efficient and the restaurant does very well on the VFM (Value-For-Money) front too.
