Cuisine: Southern Indian (Or Should I say new age South Indian!!)
Background: Crimson Chakra is the brainchild of Filmmaker Suresh Menon and is tucked away in a quiet corner of Gandhi Nagar one of Chennai's more charming residential areas. The restaurant is spread over a large area in a fabulous bungalow and serves new age South Indian cuisine.
My Quicktake: Crimson Chakra is easily one of Chennai's most quaint restaurants. The Ambience and interiors are warm and appealing in the same breath and certainly worth the drive. The food is South Indian and South Indian with a twist! Menu options include a host of a la carte dishes and a more than filling unlimited pre-set menu with countless options and bottomless portions within each course (That includes welcome beverages, soups, starters, mains, breads & rice and desserts). Like Suresh Menon puts it -"We don't want anyone to leave the restaurant without a full stomach!". The service is warm and efficient which is a rare yet perfect blend! The food is clearly not the restaurant's strongest point and while the menu has been brilliantly conceived the execution is not quite as flawless. Crimson Chakra is certainly worth a visit purely from a novel dining experience point of view .
Meal for two: Rs 1000-1200.
