Meipporul Review

Why you must watch it:
  • A rare crossover Tamil film
  • An NRI film for the NRIs and the not so NRIs, shot completely in the US
The Good: Decent plot, Nice visuals, Background score

The Bad: Editing, Some of the supporting cast

Bottomline: Its almost like some NRIs in the US thought - "We have watched enough Tamil movies made in Chennai let's get back at these guys in Chennai with our very own Tamil film and make these guys pay to watch us for a change" Jokes apart Meipporul is probably one of those rare crossover films completely shot in the US that makes decent viewing. It is the story of Dr Sam (Krish Bala) a successful neuro-surgeon and his wife Devi a daring journalist (Anusha). Their relationship changes the day Sam runs into Raja (Natty Kumar) a self-proclaimed Soothsayer with ESP and a bagful of predictions. Incidentally Natty Kumar and Krish Bala have also produced and directed the film.  What follows is a fairly engaging film with a decent amount of twists and turns and reasonably good production values. The lead cast does a good job; look out for Narayan who plays Vishwa, Sam's buddy. Don't expect edge-of-the-seat entertainment but watch Meipporul if you think experimental Tamil cinema needs your support.
