Why you might want to watch it:
- Vikram (Remember him?) returns after a super-long break
- All the pre-launch hype and hoopla
- A 'paisa vasool' entertainer?
The Good: Great Production Values, Visuals, Background Music (In most parts)
The Bad: Songs - Excuse Me Mr Kanthaswamy may be an ok tune but the other songs are inexcusable, Too long and long drawn
Look out for: Prabhu in another strong supporting role (He's been at this since Billa I think!)
Bottomline: Kanthaswamy took ages to complete and kept Vikram's impatient fans forever guessing about D Day. The film is finally here and the million dollar (Or 40-60 Crore!) Question is does the film live up to all the pre-launch hype. The answer is not an outright yes or a downright no! The Vigilante Plot might seem very 'Shankar-esque' - Rob from the rich and share with the poor, but the execution is not as slick or entertaining as an Anniyan or Sivaji. Vikram is Kanthaswamy, a CBI Officer by day and the Superhero by night; he has worked really hard on his look and it shows. Vikram is pitted against the major money launderers and tax evaders and he outwits them all the time and shares the money with the needy. The production values and the visuals (NK Ekambaram) and lighting are stunning; truly world class. Some of the locales (Like Mexico) are breathtaking. Director Susi Ganesan has surely got the scale and production values right but now he needs to find a really long pair of scissors to trim this 190 minute film which gets really tedious after a point; the film is just not racy and rivetting. So are good production values and scale with a popular hero alone enough to make a film work in Tamil? Kanthaswamy might well answer that question after its first weekend at the BO.
